Something I've Noticed About Our Blogsophere...

Disclaimer: Let me make this real clear right up front. This particular post isn't meant to poo poo on anyone in particular. I'm merely discussing something rather interestin' that I have been observing. If I offend anyone in the process, I am truly and humbly apologetic.

I was feelin' restless. Bored. What to do, what to do? I know! I jumped on my Blogger bicycle and went coastin' on the cyber streets to see what I could get into. As I'm readin' through several posts, I was startin' to notice a familiar pattern. There were several authors who would create a special post about havin' 100 faithful followers or more. At first glance, I was celebratin'and doin' the stanky leg right along with them. It's quite an accomplishment. Yet, when I would read other stories that they had published, they would only receive anywhere from 4-15 comments tops.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not gulpin' down any of this:

I think it's fab to have so many fans IF they're givin' feedback on what you're writing. What's the point otherwise? I don't want to just aimlesly crusie through people's pages and then click to follow them if I know their blog topics really don't hold my interest. Consequently, some folks may not care whether they are gettin' comments or not.For them, it's all about a large nest of followers. For me, I appreciate hearing from people who genuinely hold an interest in what I'm talkin' bout.
To all my followers who have now become friends, c'mere and let me plant one on ya:

I appreciate y'all!!

  1. i feel ya...followers definitely do not equal feedback. I personally think some people follow blogs because they think it may be something that they're interested in, but then realize it's not....which is cool too. I appreciate all my followers and don't take it personal when they don't comment. I read tons of posts and realize when I'm done, I don't have shit to say about the subject at hand. If I do have something to say, I make sure to drop a comment. I've noticed that if I say ANYTHING displaying the fact that I'm gay, I probably won't get any comments and I always lose a couple of followers, but that's to be expected and somewhat understandable. Not everyone can relate to that and some people think it's wrong...blah blah blah. Then with some it's a game. Follow me and I'll follow you. Comment me and I'll comment you.. type of thing. For me it's simple, I blog because I like to. I like having an outlet for my thoughts. Feedback is greatly appreciated, but lack of it definitely won't stop me. Damn, I wrote a book. LOL! Sorry! Great post though!

    ^^^well damn! co-sign co-sign!! lol
All this "follow me and I'll follow you" reminds me of the way people are on myspace and facebook..got a million friends and you only know 10 of em. No thanks!!
I will say I'm grateful for the people that do comment, but it's ok if they don't.

  1. @Little
I appreciate your input..thanks for stoppin through...

I agree with the facebook/myspace mentality..especially with Myspace..to me it's become somewhat of a joke now..I don't even really get on it that much..

  1. I agree with you 100%. I love when my comments come from those that I KNOW have taken the time to stop by often to "check on me" and genuinely have an interest in what I have to talk about. It is what means the most to me. I know they have this blogger etiquette that says to stop by on anyone that comments on you and it "polite" thing to do is begin following. Not me. If they comment, of course I am going to stop by and thank them for coming by, but a friend/follower that does not make. I always know the type when they come with one-liner, irrelevant-type comment. No disrespect, not offended, I simply stroll on over and thank them for coming by.

Not our case, girl! You get me with your stories and I LOVE coming by your page and will continue coming by your page.

    Peace Chica,
    Traci

Love the quote from Albert Camus, by the way. But yeah, this post makes lots of sense. I have 20 followers, but you know what -- that's not why I started blogging! I didn't even know followers existed, LOL! I just like sharing with others about the things I believe are important and I like the connection I attain by reading what others genuinely share with me.

  1. Love this post....

I've been blogging for a couple months now. I had a blog that I closed out and a new one that I started about 4 weeks ago. I appreciate all my followers and love when I get comments. However,I don't take offence when they don't comment, cause like Little Miss Knobody, I read a lot of blogs that I enjoy, but I don't post a comment each and every time.

I've found that I've been getting alot of comments from people who aren't even followers of my blog. For the most part, it makes me happy, cause @ least I know that I've made some kind of connection.

On the flipside, I know, some of them are just trying to get me to follow them....

I'm trying not to follow that game... at the end of the day, it really isn't worth it.

"...people who leave comments like check out my blog at"..
I thought I was the only one who felt like that!! Lol. I find that to be very irritating when ppl do that and they don't get shown love when they handle it that way!!
